which they left the ship & we gave them a great cheer. Just before we left an unpleasent scene took place.The G.O.C. for South Australia had made an inspection on board & as he left the ship four of the boys were coming on board with beer they were quite orderly & if General Antill I believe that was his name had let them pass all would have been well, but he made himself officious he let three go pass & pulled up a Sergeant who had a Military Medal & a D.C.M. Said something to him & the sergeant answered him back & then the fun started. The men on board called the General many unkind names & a party rushed down the gangway pushed the guard away & pulled the sergeant on board. The General was hooted by all & sundry & the wharfies clapped their hands.
