On October 24 we left Plymouth escorted by destroyers after passing the famous Eddystone Lighthouse it got dark. Next day we were at sea zig zagging all over the ocean. Each man was given a bag from the Red Cross containing shirt & undershirt, pyjamas 1 pair of deck shoes, writing paper soap, handkerchiefs tooth paste & cigarettes.
