we heard Fritz dropped bombs only a few nights ago right on the 17th C.L.S. & killed & wounded 23 of his own men. I visited the scene & there were the bloodstains still to be seen. Our boys went into the line & they at once started to have a rough time of it. We started to get many casualties, on Sept 24th I thought I would like to see the famous town of Ypres so I went & had only been there half an hour befoe he started to shell the town which is one mass of ruins. I only saw one house on the outskirts of the town undamaged. The famous Cathedral & Town Hall is a mass of ruins & yet the streets were well kept in repair, as the shrapnel was rather too much to my liking I decided to clear out as it was
