were up there nearly all could speak English & one in particular knew the country well as he was pointing out the towns & villages without a mistake. We used to get plenty of turnips here left behind by the Huns so the tale went, they were out pare the old German Front-line so we made good use of them in our various dishes. We now heard we were to go out for a good spell near the famous town of Boulogne so we looked forward to a good time also my leave to England was coming round. I might add that our pastime here was ratting with our Mascot Dog "Jack" who was indeed hot stuff at the game. Twenty rats for an afternoon was good for one dog but there were times when we got more.
