were as straight as if on parade. The way our chaps went down I wont forget. The N.Z. too, so you can see how jolly lucky I've been.
I was not far away when poor old Teddy Larkin & an officer were killed outright & another chap who was in the tent was about five paces from me went down & lasted about three minutes. This chap I might add was a relation to Ted Roper the cook who dad knows.
On my way down to the beach I I didn't care what became of me as I was feeling pretty bad as I lost a good bit of blood from my two holes they made in me & I didn't know how the shrapnel missed me as it was dropping all over the place & sometimes it would stir up the ground right alongside me.
