They are all looking in the direction of their feed with all ears pricked forward when "stable exercise" is blown they are just the same & know almost to the minute. When we are having our manoeuvres in which the light horse has to take its place for when the bugle sou sounds "The Charge" they gallop like mad & take a lot of holding as they seem to get so excited, but keep in a perfect line.
We had a pretty good turnout on Monday & Tuesday, as it was more of the real thing, as we were advanced to try & take a position when shrapnel were being hurled through the air & bursting not 200 yds at the rear, & you should see how the bullets scatter about, when the shells burst about 25 feet in off the ground, it's like a a big crowd throwing stones from all directions. We are all longing to know as to what is doing in Australia , as we haven't had a letter or any news for a long time but there must be a block somehow, & wonder if the mail boats are being sent to "Davy Jones Locker" & all sorts of other silly things.
