So my number was now No 10, as no 6 had gone. I was beginning to live in hopes of getting Xmas at home but I got my leave much earlier than I expected so at 5. P.M. on Dec 2. I got word to get ready by 8 PM. I was rather excited as a school Boy yet could hardly believe my good luck. Six of us left at 8 PM after a good send off from my mates.
Arrived at Amiens at 8-45 PM. when we heard there was no train till three am so we waited about at the Y.M.C.A. No one was allowed in the town. Oh had we known we would have taken a bed in a French Hotel & had a good nights rest. At the YMCA one hardly had room to sit down but it was warm in there, at 3 AM we all went on the platform to wait for the train we got very cold indeed
