to get aboard the train & it was a sight I never like to see when the men are saying good bye to their Mothers & Sweethearts & there were many tears shed on Waterloo that day. We made a good run down to Southampton & no one was in a hurry to get on board the ship. When we arrived a Harve Dec 16th after a quiet trip no one wanted to leave the ship we got to the rest camp after a march no one was singing or whistling what a contrast to when we were going on leave. My cold was very bad so I went straight on Sick Parade & got medisine & instead of sleeping in stables that night I slept in the warm Guard Room & felt better next day. Dec 17 We marched down to the train everybody wondering how long the return journey will take this time. I made for a cattle truck so as I could lie
