becoming quite a public character My name has been continually in the papers - Being amongst the Gold Fields in this part I have often had to report something about them etc. These communications are always published and you may suppose as there is great difference of opinion in these matters - there are many letters - some backing me up others accusing me of mis-representing the diggings - but that is always the case. Gov.t [Government] Officers never being allowed to notice these things - it saves them a world of trouble - Punch had a sharp go in at me lately about some of the work in this part - Gov.t [Government] having altered one of my plans in spite of all reports and made a fist of it - there is certain to be a row about it And the whole of the correspondence sure to be published
