until you mentioned it I was not conscious of having been so remiss. All Thursday instinct kept bidding me heed it and refrain from going out with the others 'lest you should come in our absence, and but for certain arguements on mothers part I would have acted accordingly and been here to greet you. I think it must have been the shock of learning that yet again my inner self had predicted correctly, that caused me to appear so indifferent upon finding you installed when we returned home.

Never in my life before to any one have I offered an apology but I do so now - humbly, to you, for any modicum of hurt or perplexity I may have caused you throughout your visit.  Indeed, & I will strive to be more companionable on further occasions.... It's my belief I've got a screw loose somewhere I can't help being a bit queer!
