short in both reading and writing these days. The last thing I read was "The Captives" by Hugh Walpole... A splendidly written novel of much religious and sex interest - well worth one's time in reading it - and inwardly digesting.

Three weeks ago we went over to "Ballahelly" to spend the afternoon and everning with the Brookes - and had a most enjoyable time. Old Mr Goldsmith has to spend his entire time of existence in an invalid bed-chair now. I forgot if he were and invalid at the time you were here - but I hardly think so? Of course he, Mr Goldsmith, was unable to join in our revels the other evening... but first one and then another of us kept popping to into his room and having a word with him....

I fancy I told you the parson man had bought a "ford" motor, didn't I? He drives rather well - but the other night, when returning from a shopping stunt in Ramsey, he came to some amount of grief. He knocked over a woman cyclist... and very nearly "did for her". I fancy he's a bit nervous of the machine ever since.
