I appreciate & respect your affections. Never fear that seriously would I turn them to ridicule. My outlook on life is much to staid for me to take a main love lightly. I see nothing humorous in love & marriage.
Between ourselves, Harry, you & I are not in one singular particular suited to marriage with one another. I should soon weary of life as I'd be called upon to live - & you would lose patience with my meandering moods & flights of fancy. Of course you don't think now that you would.... but when a man comes home tired & hungry & finds no food at hand, & that his wife is locked in her room & refuses to emerge for the remainder of the twenty four hours, he's likely to grow irritable..... And supposing a family appeared - & needed attention the mother was undesirous of giving. Oh yes, owing to the turn of my mind I'm as mad as the mad-hatter at times.
I think when I spoke of resentment I was referring to your actions of the moment. If I remember rightly you were a trifle hot at the time & I was warning you that if you went further I'd be vexed.
I do not object to you writing to me according to your heart, but please remember that by encouraging your love
