Friday Night

My dear Harry -

This mornings postal delivery brought me a very long letter from your own self... quite a love letter at that!... Be careful, my boy, you're only making things worse for yourself in the time to come... but it is a really nice letter, Harry, this last one, & I fully appreciated your emotions & respect what you feel towards - one unnamed!

No; I'm not going to allow myself to worry about my big hefty Cousin any the more from now one. As you say, I've told you fairly & squarely how I feel; I think I've given you to understand that the day will come when we bid "adieu" ? so ought further rests upon your own head entirely. ... I'm sorry, for I believe you do care, but I cannot offer the least encouragement up to so far as I can at present foresee... and my foresight is long.

Yes, I got your P.C. & mother your letter written from "Stanley House". We're delighted you were made comfortable for the night on Sunday... and it would really be much better for you to leave Douglas at 6.AM Monday than during the afternoon. Didn't you think so once you got on the way?

So Ellis did a bit of grumbling, did he? Well, well, I wonder why! Tis rarely an episode of ones life closes
