Hull, Jan 9th 1808

My Dear Mr Hassall,

  I know it will give you great
pleasure to hear of our safe arrival in England
particularly when you learn the great danger we were in before we arrived - it was great mercie that
we did arrive for never ship entered port
in a worse situation than ours, her Bowsprit
was loose and in a very leaky condition she made
three foot water a Hour for the last few hours
before we came to an anchor. We have great
cause to be thankful that we ever got safe
and could plainly perceive the hand of the Lord
