for evangelical purposes, and not applicable to private or individual Convenience, except in a case of great urgency - the request to be made to the Governor on this occasion must be sanctioned by the whole of the Brethren - or as many of them as may continue to reside in New Holland at any of our present settlements. -
You will be anxious to hear of the proceedings of our Society, and we have the satisfaction to inform you that it continues to receive a very great degree of countenance from the religious part of the community - it has been the means of enlivening the Zeal of Christians in general - directing their attention especially to the more universal introduction of the Gospel thro out our own Kingdom - it has also awakened the languid devotion of our Professing Brethren, in Holland, Germany, Switzerland & other places, where Missionary Institutions are formed, a Spirit of Grace and Supplication poured forth in a peculiar degree - We had sent out on the Duff an extensive Mission intended for the South Seas but [indecipherable] of God prevented for the present the accomplishment of this purpose - The Duff was safe & carried onto South America, from whence the Missionaries have within a few days in safety, except for a few who are shortly expected - We have also a Mission in the [indecipherable] of Africa by the Cape of Good Hope, from whence we continued to receive encouraging accounts and have therefore determined to strengthen it by sending out additional numbers. We have other objects in contemplation which we shall hereafter inform you of as it is our intention to write to you by every conveyance - If new Brethren we affectionately [indecipherable] you the especial protection, and efficacious blessing of the Great Head of the Church - we

trust you will cheer our hearts, and inspire our thanksgivings by the accounts of your mutual love, your steadfast faith, your abundant labours, and your enlarged success - The degree of success indeed depends upon God, to whose supreme pleasure we submissively bow, in the humble persuasion however that if you are faithfull & Zealous in his Service, you shall not in this respect be unrewarded - but we are especially solicitous that you may walk worthy of your vocation, giving no just ground of offence, but approving yourselves all things the Ministers and  Servants of God, in the midst of a crooked, immoral, and  [indecipherable] generation, among whom ye will hold forth the word of life, and as the Sons of God, blameless and harmless, and without rebuke, we trust ye will shine as lights in the world. - By order of the Directors of the Missionary Society
