the blow to us all!  You will hear from Sally, that she & Edwd. are on the eve of going abroad for three months. I would have wished that their wanderings wd. have confined to this side of the Channel. he is not, I think, by any means fit to undertake the fatigues & discomfort of foreign travelling, & she hardly knows what it is.  We were absent when the plans were laid & the [indecipherable] engaged, or I think I should have tried to dissuaded her from attempting quite so much.  We have ourselves paid a hasty visit to Paris lately - our rooms were engaged at the Hotel Bristol, some time before this sad intelligence reached us, and of course the journey was postponed.  When we were able to go, our visit was necessarily a very hurried one, & we only spent a few days there [indecipherable] the [indecipherable] it was not possible to see
