the night, in consequence of the expected arrival of the Queen, on her way to Balmoral.  She did not however stay more than a few minutes in passing.
15th Sept. Started at 11 oC, and arrived at Dalby at 2.30.  My Brother awaited with his carriage & half on hour's drive brought us to Swindridge - in the train from Carlisle we passed the beautiful estate of Sanquhar (the Duke of Buccelough's) more than twenty miles in length & also close to the celebrated Gretna Green. My sister affectly greeted us on the Steps at Swindridge House, & we found many hospitle arrangements made for our comfort.  Dalby is the centre of an extensive Coal & Iron district, & on the Swindridge Estate are several mines & smelting furnaces. -
