not appear to suffer any debilitating effects from the change back to a [indecipherable] climate.
We are very glad to find ourselves at home again, after an absence of nearly three months, and I do not think we shall attempt anything beyond Paris, or perhaps Switzerland again! Italy disappointed us very much - possibly because our expectations had been so much [indecipherable].
I went, certainly, with my head full of the old romance, [indecipherable] lakes, orange & myrtle groves etc. & I now feel [indecipherable] to have had the illusion so roughly dispelled. The season was no doubt much against us, for the weather was for the most part, bitterly cold & there was much sickness prevalent, both fever & influenza.
We were of course greatly delighted with many of the grand objects of interest [indecipherable] in Italy - Pompei - Vesuvius
