21st, My Brothers dear wife (as usual) full of plans for our amusement we went by train from Dalby to Ayr & drove from the station to Burns monument on the banks of "Bonny Doon" passing on our way the Cottage where he lived, now a public house. The Monument is a pretty classical building surrounded by a well kept Shrubbery, within it are several relics of the gt Scottish bard, & the well known figure of Tam O'Shanter & Souter Johnny. We then passed over the romantic bridge of Ayr wh. crosses the Weir Doon & listened to the music of the rapid water - our sentiment was put to flight by a heavy shower we rushed off to our cab & drove back to Ayr, there we visited several friends of [indecipherable] - the Boswells' [indecipherable] then (Johnsons') - In the square in the centre of the town is a colossal statue
