Sarah & Ms B. proposed to accompany us as far as Glasgow.  We started by train fm Dalby at 10 & reached Glasgow at 1 where we lunched at an exceedingly well ordered Restaurant.  H. went to see the celebrated Glasgow Cathedral, but as it rained heavily, Sarah & I were obliged to take shelter in a shop.  Took leave of Ms B. & Sister & at 4pm started by train for Edinburgh where we arrived at 6pm taking up our abode at the Caledonian Hotel a most admirably conducted Establishment.
29th.  The City of Edinburgh struck us generally as being picturesque & beautiful in the extreme, in the old town are historical associations of great interest & here are the remains of the residences of many celebrated persons.  The New Town is elegant & orderly containing many public buildings statues all which [indecipherable]
