in the distance is the famous citadel where the Mamelukes were massacred. On the hill behind, Napoleon camped & there are marks made by his cannon on the walls of some of the buildings. Unhappily, alas, the artist painted the picture when I had my alleged mustache and I'm afraid you wont recognise it. . But the horse is splendid. You will like it best if you look at it ten feet away. (Mother dear, you might get it framed and keep it for me I intend to give it as a wedding gift to my wife when I get married (ought I to say if I get married).
Since all the papers are referring to General Sir Ian Hamilton & the Mediterranean Command Staff, I dont think I'm giving anything away when I say it is generally believed that the great Expeditionary force gathering for the attack on the Dardanelles & Constantinople is to be commanded by Sir Ian Hamilton. I am quite delighted to be serving under him. He came to Cairo the other day and reviewed the Territorials & they gave him a great reception. I missed seeing him for when I got to Cairo, Sir Ian Hamilton had gone to Pt Said. I believe he is now in Alexandria. I'm sure to see him shortly.
