Following day we weighed anchor (3 tons) & stood out to sea.
Curious the machinations of the German Spy System. All over the East wild stories of British reverses have been circulated. They are printed in arabic & tell fabulous fairytales of German victories. The best item is that the whole British Fleet has been sunk. The Arabs from inland are much perturbed. They come in & ask the Resident is it true. He pointed to the harbour and said:- "If it is true how comes it that these British Ships come & go from all over the world, while not a single German warship or merchantman is ever seen"? Thats a hard nut to crack. It is now late & the bugles are sounding "Last Post". I will hie me to my virtuous couch. If you are all good I will add a few lines in the morning.
