My dear little Jean
We've been out a week now Jessie Jean dodging the shrapnel and Jack Johnsons & the bombs & its fine sport.
Now & then the shell bursts so close that you cant hear it till its right on you then the shock is awful. The pieces of shell and the pellets of lead fly all over the shop .
I've had so many lucky escapes that I feel sure I'm destined to come home to you all again.   Tell Mrs Price I saw Harold a few days ago & he is well. So is Shannon & Al Chrystal. Col Cox, Roy Horden, Capt Brenner & Lt Cork are wounded & poor Sgt Parkes (who used to call me quicksilver) was killed in the trenches.   Ted Sutton was well last time I saw him. Norman Jeffrey was killed a couple of days ago. I dont think you know him. Kathie met him. I'm still as fit as a fiddle. Our first night was the worst. It was just hell. Shrapnel bursting all around all night. So we shifted our quarters . But we have always to watch out for Snipers.
XXX Them's kisses.

Love to Olfer & Betty & Ada & Ivor & Alston & Barbara & Alan Bill [indecipherable] & Mum & Dad.

Best love to all
Ol
