will attack. But they wont. We have expected & hoped for it for several days now, but nothin doin'. Still I hope very soon to record that they have at last attacked and [been] driven off with much slaughter. I'd rather run a mile than fight a minute. But if Tommy Turk & Co made a wild & woolly attack on our lines he would get such a hiding that would all the more easily push him off the map.
Before this you will have heard that Col Ryrie has been promoted to Brigadier-General. This is good business & the Brigade is very pleased.
We are now living in the lap of comparitive luxury. We sent a messenger to Alexandria and he took £5. He brought back a few tins of fruit, milk & oatmeal, some sauce & pickles so we expect to live like fighting cocks for a week.
So please withold all sympathy for half starved soldiers for over a week anyhow...
Sorry [Jen?] did not like my blue eyes & my moustache. If Jean has the desire she is at liberty to make the eyes brown. Glad you like the horse. The picture is alright id you get a long way off...
I grew wiskers on Gallipoli for 2 weeks. Looked like a barbarian. Then I saw 2 grey hairs and promptly shaved clean again. Still manage to get a shave 3 times a week. No more news but plenty love to all.
