My dear Mither
The 12 up in the left hand corner is merely to record that this is the dozenth epistle I have sent since I left sunny New South Wales. It is only because I've been very busy indeed, & because I've distributed my correspondence very widely that I have not sent many more. But you will have seen all the letters I have sent home and all the news is now with you.
The best news is that while quite a lot of men are sick with various ailments & there are many cases of cold & influenza, yet I have enjoyed the very best of health since I left. Not even the vaccination & inoculation could put me off my feed. You will have heard that there was another scrap at the Canal, and it might serve to keep us in Egypt a bit longer. You wont mind that of course but we are itching to get into the thick of things. It is hard to understand this wild desire on the part of our fellows to get into the Germans & the Turks. While I share it to the full, I cant explain why we would rather be risking our precious skins instead of enjoying the comparative safety and ease of Camp life.
