My dear Mummy
Just a line to let you know that I am fit as a fiddle. The only thing I can find wrong with me is that I've got a bit thinner & a wee bit greyer & some of my teeth have been loosened through munching the hard biscuits. I'll have to get them half soled & heeled some day.
So I have very little to complain of after almost a years soldiering & 3 months under fire. When I think of the hundreds of our chaps that have knocked up and been sent back to the base sick I am very grateful for my excellent constitution. Our tucker is not too bad & lately weve been able to buy a little milk, porridge & rice. So dont you go on wasting any sympathy on little Ollie.
We have just had a five days battle & it is still proceeding merrily. The bombardment was terrible for days, the row being deafening. The warships have come along on our wing and are pounding away at the Turkish guns & positions. You would have been wonderfully proud of these young Australians had you seen them charge the Turkish trenches the other day. It was great - but the place is now spotted with dead. Weve captured
