Bonnie Jean o' Inverness

Ive got two nice letters of yours to answer my darling, but as we leave for the Dardanelles tomorrow to smash the Turk & thrash the Hun I can't answer them as prettily as I could. Im so rushed I can't answer half my mail so to all the good folk who dont get letters, please compose a pretty little apology for me.

I've seen hundreds of wounded arriving back at the base lately and they are all splendidly cheerful. They fought like heroes in extraordinary   difficulties and the observation officers (French) state that no troops in the world could have done so well. I'm only hoping our Light Horse does as well. The pity of it is that we have to fight dismounted. (I'm not. I'm riding Herald)

So glad you enjoyed the presents. If I had any money I'd have sent a lot more. But I've spent all the money I brought from Australia & the pay does not go far.   I'm very fit & well. Hope to have a real good time & win plenty glory (I'll get behind another fellow.)

Best love to all at home.
Your affectionate brother Ol.
