So I took the rifle & had a couple of shots. Without the telescopic sight it is impossible to pick a man out at that distance when in khaki & my shots were as useless as the others. General Ryrie then had a couple of shots but the Turk went on brushing the flies away. So we gave him best.
I suppose the nephewses & nieces want to hear about the donkeys. Well, they are quite well thank you. Pa Donk & Ma donk & little Shrapnel are all fit & well. The other day during the cannonade the shells & splinters flew all around them but never touched one of them (They're too lucky).
You might (Anne) tell Mrs Massey that Al went away to hospital last week . His back has been weak since the time the horse fell on him & I told him that he was mad to stay on. He needs a months complete rest & I dropped a line to May.
