beauty side by side in my dugout. They are amongst my classics. They serve by their sparkling wit  & brilliant descriptive passages to wile away the weary hours of trench warfare. Whether at Albany, Aden, Suez, Alexandria, P  Said, Cairo or Gallipoli, Leoda's letters have been my one joy & solace. How on earth she finds time to write them all I cannot imagine. Tell her of my grateful appreciation & say just to keep on keepin'  on.

Les Holmes is here in the trenches. I see him every day. He is looking wonderfully well.   Getting fat. Much better than when he was in Egypt. Give my love to Liz & Stan & the polo team. I hope you have shown Liz the home letters. I drop her an occasional line but we cant get envelopes for love or money. How is Mrs Williams? Tell her I often think of her. Her bright smile haunts me still.   I've not seen Alf McMullen yet. He is I believe down at [name deleted]. I called twice  to see him at Mena - might see him soon.

Am still fit as I can be & am revelling in the life of a troglodite. Shrapnel has eased off a lot during the last month. I dont have to dodge nearly so much.

Lots of love
