Australians to throw in here a month ago the whole the whole show would have been finish. The Britishers are too slow & stolid & lack fire & dash & push & initiative. In our last big battle our part of the line was not attacked so our casualties are small. We have one difficult post to hold where the Turks are only a couple of yards off. They are bombing all night there & we got several wounded there. Les Hohnes has been there a few times and is an expert with the bombs. He is very lucky for he has been wounded (very slightly - only scratches) 3 times but not bad enough to go off duty. I took some naval officers through these trenches the other day & the Turks opened a couple of guns on us. One burst passed between Captain Raikes & little Ollie. He got a slight scratch on the face& I got nothing but a face full of dust & dirt & hot air. (I'm too lucky arent I Jean).
How many of you good folk are keeping your promises to write once a week ? (Dont all speak at once). I reckon its time I got a letter from Olfer & Betty & Ivor (I'm enclosing a couple of stamps for Ivor - how is your collection?) & Alston. I guess Tien is home now so its time I started to write to her and her started to write to I (Bad grammar passes for wit, here on Gallipoli) .....
