2Abdul is bringing up reinforcements & trying hard to bar the way to Gallipoli & the Narrows. We have settled down to a duel of snipers & our boys are far better than the Turks at this game. One of our chaps named Sims has himself bagged 130. Old Tommy Turk has been rather more accurate with his artillery the past week & has given Ryries Post a good peppering. But we have not had many casualties ...
The weather here is just perfect though its getting cool at nights. We can see winter coming. (I've not had a winter for over 12 months). I'm not likely to love winter in the trenches. Mud & slush & snow dont sound a bit inviting & artistic do they? We've had a lot of rain here & we slide down the trenches. Out boots collect mud by the cwt just like the black soil plains. Got a letter from Ailsa's mother the other day. Ailsa is quite well thank you Mrs Hogue.
No word of being relieved yet, though we are expecting to get a few weeks spell someday. We've earned it anyhow. I'd like to go back to Egypt & fetch our horses & go to Mesopotamia. I'm rather tired of trench fighting. This was to be a real nice long letter, but I'm off to duty, so heres hopin'
Best love to allOl
