endeavoured to recall to his recollection, but what made me wonder more than anything was that he did not remember anything about Bazel - the black man  - who to my knowledge had during his stay at Tichbourne always been in his company.  Now Bazel who was [indecipherable] at this time in Sydney had not called upon him at the hotel, but did so afterwards!  How very strange that D'Casto should recognize him when he did call and did not remember his name or even that there was a black man about the place!
