I hope if such is the case that Elizabeth's choice may be in every respect productive of happiness to her, both in the present & in the future, but I shall say no more until I hear more certainly whether my congratulations are not premature. Yu will be shocked to hear that poor S. [?] Watson Taylor has been overtaken by a very sad visitation- a cancer in the [indecipherable] he dined with us on the 18th August and was then quite well & cheerful he is now at death's door being sustained from day to day by a very small quantity of fluid which he swallows with great difficulty. - The brothers & sisters are constantly with him - he is aware that his case is perfectly hopeless his patience & resignation are quite wonderful - I have
