Inscription on the Monument in Dalby Church.
In sacred remembrance of James George Smith Neill of Barnwiell & Swindridge Muir, Brigadier General, C.B. & A.D.C. to the Queen. Born at Ayr 26th May 1810 Killed at the Relief of Lucknow 25th Sept. 1857. His public services are part of the history of his [indecipherable] age. This monument is a tribute to his private worth".
