the house - we were most hospitably entertained. The Estate is a very extensive one - the garden 9 acres walled all round - The hall so constructed as to b e capable of artificial heating - Numerous forcing houses in wh. were grapes, citrons - limes - peaches etc. and every variety of choice flowers & plants. The Estate contains moors abounding in game & also a Deer Park. Returned home to dinner greatly pleased with our excursion. 20th Went to church but the Presbyterian form of service was not agreeable to our notions - in the Church is a monument to Genr Neill & the inscription upon it is as follows. "In sacred remembrance of James George Smith Neill of Bornwich [?] & Swindrige [indecipherable] Brigadier Genr & A.D.C. to the Queen. Born at Ayr 28th May 1816. Killed at the relief of Lucknow 25th Sept. 1857. His public services are part of the history of
