and for an apparent neglect of many little requests you have at various times needed. Indeed dearest Edward you can form but a faint idea of the state of confusion into which we are all plunged and at present there is little hope of a change for the better. That a reaction will sooner or later take place I know; but then the lowness of the spirits which succeeds these fearful fits of nastiness is equally painful to his family worships & from the jail experience of the last six years I think we have every reason to dread the death like calm which will inevitably succeed the fhrenzy [ frenzy] of the present moment. I will not mask an a subject so fearful to us all nor should these mask any allusions to it but this I feel to me influenced is due to you. & I cannot hear that you should imagine I am so wrapped into today
