yesterday & returns today to remain I hope till next week that I may have a little more enjoyment of his society before I return home [indecipherable] has to propose [indecipherable] on Thursday 9 int - there never was a period when the elections have been carried on with greater keeness but without acrimony. It is a struggle between a monopoly with starvation & free trade with plenty - I fear however the former will prevail now because John Bull has got a full belly, but that before another Parlt. be called he will alter his tune - In fact it is as clear to me as the sun that if Peel comes in to office it will be with so small a majority that [indecipherable] clear sighted as he is will find he must give way to the times & repeal or materially alter the Corn Laws & allow a greater freedom of Trade & he will be opposed in these by a section of the ultra Tories, but will have the support of a very large minority
