My Dear friend,

Altho I can scarcely bring myself to write to you at full length & to answer the very delightful letters wh. have given me so much pleasure from Emmeline William & yourself, since you write hardly yet have recovered from the the severe shock which abt this time you will be feeling, yet I must write a few lines to say that I hope sincerely to hear you are all resigned to the absence wh could not be reverted & console yourselves not only with the hope an all merciful Providence
