My dear William

I would not omit the opportunity of the ship w.h takes out Gen.l Bourke of writing to you a few lines & of saying that I would have answered a very delightful letter I rec.d  from your oldest sister & Emmeline by the Mary J. Recently, but dated last Decemb.r but under the idea of the recent distressing accounts you w.d have but shortly rec.d before this arrives, I could not write as I otherwise
