We go to Dee Why over Hill for picnic & we swim in Lagoon & have a good time. Then go round on ocean beach for a bake. I cover P.P. up but I get too much baked. In afternoon more swimming & then just dodge rain as we get home. We go to bed & P.P. goes off to sleep as we talk. Thompsons come up for goods after 10 in the pouring rain.

Tuesday 27 December 1921

I cut & fit a petticoat.  Rainy all day.  Mum is sick so we do the work. I play piano while P.P. sews I go for order to Gracies. More sewing after dinner I am told of some funny discrepancies. We go for 7.55 tram & go Home via Spit in double quick time. We sit & chat. P.P. tells me about my perpetual habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. She tells me some of the things that girls  hate & says I can practise them.Elle does not think I can possibly be anything now. She tells me what she is going to do with her next & I am in a very sad state. I tell her all I can about my inexperience allowing for that I am too impossible. I make a final resolve to befriend her while ever I am allowed. I am extremely elated to find that I have such a true Friend and adviser. I pledge myself her most dutiful & faithful chum for ever. I have to sprint after the 11 pm tram I nearly die in the chase----
