Sydney, August 4th 1880
To Mrs Macarthur
Camden Park

Madam,

We are in receipt of your note enclosing Chq £150, and are highly gratified at your being pleased with the carriage. We are sorry to say that there is some slight mistake in the reference to the price of the Waggonette. In our letter of 4th Dec 79, we offered to build you a Waggonette the size of Mr Tange's and hung on the Anglo American principle, for £150 but Captain Onslow called and saw our Mr Vial and ordered a Waggonette far larger, to be hung on an English undercarriage, which is always more expensive, and agreed to the price charged viz. £180.0.0. Captain Onslow quite understood when he gave the order, that the Waggonette was to be larger than Mr Tange's, also that it was to be hung on a different undercarriage, and that the price was £180.0.0 and not £150 in fact, the cost of the vehicle to us, was more than the cheque sent, as we had to alter our patterns, and make several alterations and improvements in yours which was not in the other before it was sent away we received an order form Mr Coleman of New Zealand for one exactly like yours at the same price £180. We are sorry this misunderstanding should have arisen, as the order was entered in our order book the day Captain Onslow gave it. Enclosed please find receipt on account, and thanking you for your kind patronage, and trusting our explanation is satisfactory. We are

Yours obediently
Wm Vial & Son
