chasm which we call The Gorge.   The perpendicular cliffs on each side are 400 feet high, fringed at the top by masses of dark green foliage. at the bot-tom of the Gorge the river eddies ceaselessly on, be-tween its dark deep waters and the base of the cliffs a thin fringe of small trees and shrubs manage to exist. the mangrove also appears.
