tance, except for the last mile or two, when he river ran beyond some sandstone ranges and only emerged at our camping place to plunge into them again.

     In the afternoon Allan and I climbed up a range that rose 700 feet above the river channel, but could see little else but ranges. The day was very hot and the rifle almost blistered ones hands. We had much difficulty in reaching home before dark, as we had to push our way through rank tangled grass seven feet high, covering the jagged stones from view. Unfortunately Fred has a swollen ankle which renders him quite lame and helpless   The two [Larikeas??] caught abundance of fish in river. So we have feasted well, and left enough for breakfast
