Thursday 5th Very squally
weather. and heave rains.
Fred is very sea sick also
Allen and many other  of
the passengers.
Friday and Saturday were
both rough days. and a  heavy sea
was running, the  main deck was under water
nearly the whole time, and
we eventually discarded
our boots and socks, and
adopted the more convenient
method of going barefooted
In the evening after dinner
Mr Joyce, one of the missionaries
going to China, inaugurated
an informal service. Hugh
Young, and another of the mis-
sionaries, leading on the piano,
Samuel Crump then read some
chapters from Prof Drummonds
