and the creeks were all swollen. We rode along the creek for some distance but finding no way of cros-sing we worked back to the camp. In the afternoon Fred and I took a blackfellow with and went to search the country to the westward. We crossed a well-grassed plain to the foot  of the range and leaving our horses, climbed up to reconoitro, we found a well grassed plateau, with good water on it. Leaving [Slocum?] with the horses, we walked down a creek on the  other  ^west  side of the range

We noticed the track of a boa constrictor crossing the sand. further on we passed a most remarkable rock, like
