The river here cuts through a channel in the bed rock and as we could make no further progress we picthed camp.   In the afternoon I took Allan and Hugh and went on foot to try and find a route down the river. we were all well armed, as we had indications of the proximity of aborigines. in crossing a rocky gorge we lost Hugh and did not see anything more of him  till we returned to the camp.
