the E.A.S. "Tsinan" were at anchor there.
We sailed from Thursday Is. early on
Saturday morning and steamed through Albany
passage.
Sunday 24th. I was on deck at
3 oclock this morning viewing an eclipse
of the moon, which was a total one
and very distinctly seen. It rather
surprised the captain as no mention
of it was made in the nautical almanac.
We lay at anchor all last night
as it is not safe to navigate this part of the
coast at night.
Monday 25. I had long talk with
Capt Kerr about the Islands of
Baddo and Moa in Torres Straits
also Darnley Island. He also told me
about some pearlers recently
finding 700 lbs weight of Spanish
dollars in silver of dates a cen-
tury old. They were lying on a
coral reef about a foot below
