Wed 18. Travelled about 18 miles over good level country with water abundant in small quantities.

Thursday 19th. The mosquitos were worse last night than we have yet had them, which is say-ing much. Flies in the day time and mosquitos at night render a veil an absolute necessity.

  We travelled about 12 or 13 miles over a most rugged course, mes-ses of great jagged stones com-posed the surface for miles. we crossed a fine running river at 9 oclock. About 1.30 we crossed the Durack River and as the horses were much distressed by the work of crossing the ranges I decided to camp. So we turned into camp beside a running stream
