Besides which the poor animals

had to make the ascent and

descent of several ranges,

clambering for foothold as the

boulders of stone rolled from

under their feet. Late in the

afternoon we turned into camp  

close to the Durack Riv. One of

Larikea caught some fish and

a young shark, which proved

a very acceptable morsel, after

being well boiled in brine.

  Fred and I busied ourselves horse-

shoeing,  there being 6 horses that

required a shoe or two apiece.

and we have about 6 miles of

stoney ranges tomorrow. The  

dingos appear to be numerous

here, judging from the number

of tracks, and the incessant

howling they are making tonight
