We travelled about seven miles W N West and had much difficulty in getting our pack horses down a decliv-ity as steep a church roof, but reaching the bottom in safety we crossed a rich flat and camped beside the stream I had sighted in the morning. We found it to be a river of con-siderable magnitude, and near our camp it went over a bar of rock form-ing a roaring cataract. the river being 50 yards wide and the water falling 20 feet

   Sat 11th    Taking one of the [Larikeas?] with me I rode ahead to reconoitre the country. Made several inefectual attempts
